About The Journalism Shop
All Journalism Shop members are former Los Angeles Times journalists who banded together to help showcase our talents and skills on a single website. Here we offer profiles of those seeking full-time or contract work, showcase some of our accomplishments and publish blogs. Our ranks include veteran political journalists, fashion writers, award-winning investigative journalists and a wide raft of the invisible folks – line editors, copy editors, page designers and researchers.
Our interests range from freelance magazine journalism to book writing, deep project research to report design and writing. We are experts in social media, too. By hiring our members, you will be bringing Los Angeles Times professionalism to your projects.
Our members work on all kinds of projects. Here are some of our favorites.

There is no substitute for face-to-face reporting and research.
Our journalists measure their experience in decades, not months or years.
Our reporters have covered some of the most important stories of our generation.
The work was like peeling an onion. The outer skin came off with difficulty … but in no time you’d be down to its innards, tears streaming from your eyes as more and more beautiful reductions became possible.
There is more to editing than just cleaning up grammar. It requires adding information where it is necessary and subtracting it when it is redundant.
Our editors understand how to take any article and make it relevant, accurate and engaging for your readers.
Good design is all about making other designers feel like idiots because that idea wasn’t theirs.
Design is often beautiful, but we often forget that facts are just as important as appearance.
Our graphic designers are experienced journalists who find it just as important to get the facts correct as to create a beautiful setting.
Social media is the ultimate equalizer. It gives a voice and a platform to anyone willing to engage.
While just about anyone can use social media, our experienced, professional writing and editing will develop long-standing trust with readers.
Our journalists understand that social media posts must be quick yet accurate, meaningful and engaging.
Photography is the story I fail to put into words.
